Everything is well organized to make the stay nice and warm, even if the temperatures are below zero in March (- 15 C) we never suffered of the cold during skiing. The evenings were very pleasant. The food excellent. And the saunas always very warm. Male, France

Oli hienoa olla mukana ainoana suomalaisena retkellä, jossa muut osallistujat olivat Sveitsistä, Saksasta, Ranskasta, Englannista ja Belgiasta. Kelpaisi suomalaistenkin löytää nämä opastetut retket Kainuussa. Minulle tämä oli myös hyvä kielikurssi.

Kainuulaisten palveluntarjoajien ystävällisyys jäi erityisesti mieleen - ripaus savolaista lupsakkuutta siinä mukana.

Aluksi arvelin, että matka on kallis. Matkan jälkeen täytyy todeta, että hinta-laatu –suhde on kohdallaan. JK

The scenery was in its best winter looks; the sunny weather, the friendly accommodations, good food and fine travel companions made this an enjoyable skiing week. But the ideal guiding and the chance to stay overnight unexpectedly at the Teerilampi wilderness log cabin made it a very special event. Thanks for taking care of such a wonderful ski tour! Todella mukava kokemus Suomessa: vaellus kaikilla mukavuuksilla, minun tarvitsi vain hiihtää! Saatoin keskittyä leppoisaan ulkoiluun ja luontoon. Oppaat olivat palveluhenkisiä ja mukavaa seuraa, ja opin oppailta paljon asioita luonnosta ja siellä selviämisestä. Oli myös mukavaa tutustua muihin retkeläisiin jotka tälle reissulle olivat tulleet ulkomailta. Ihmettelen, että näille retkille osallistuu niin vähän suomalaisia, ilmeisesti suurin osa vaeltajista on ulkomaalaisia. Suosittelen lämpimästi tätä juttua suomalaisille, jotka haluavat nauttia luonnosta ja liikunnasta ilman, että tarvitsee mennä omien taitojen tai jaksamisen äärirajoilla. Oppaat olivat huippuja.  T.T.

Daily distances were just right, one felt that had done some skiing, but not to the point of exhaustion! The scenery was awesome and the fact that we met so few people was a bonus too. Cooking in Domnan Pirtti and Arola was excellent. Wir haben besonders Glück mit unserer kleinen ausgenehmen Gruppe von 4 Personen. Alle waren freundlich und haben auf einander mitmachen konnten. Beforehand I did not spend much time on reading about this trip. I’ve been on trips in Finland before, long time ago. This trip was good, accommodation in general was good. Some more information should be given about the experience needed. Not all participants could easily come along with the group. This resulted sometimes in long lunch breaks as we had to wait for the slower participants. I think that people coming to Finland usually expect a lot of nature, with very few people. And this is what we have got. I will recommend this trip to those friends who are “fit” for Finland.  Peter, The Netherlands

The tour started for us with a trip. The distance was 45 km which we never had trained. So the first day was hard for us. Second day and the rest of the week was the distance good. Overall an outstanding trip. So many memories to treasure, and the feeling of having been in a through one of Europes true wilderness areas. Breathtaking winter scenery at its very best, every scene was like a Christmas card. Hard to find the words to describe such beauty. Tumppi and Ute were excellent, great humour & enthusiasm, and organized.

The snow shoe experience in Finland was something I had looked forward to for some time. The location and scenery is just stunning and the guides Tumppi and Ute made sure we were all looked after. The terrain at times is challenging but more than possible. Make sure to follow the advice as to clothing for the trip. This will ensure you make a fantastic experience.  Andy, England

The snowshoe trekking is like having a taste of nature in wintertime. You feel the character of the snow by the deepness of your steps. And sometimes the cold will make you feel uncomfortable. But there is always a way to make a fire or find water. Have a delicious meal of smoked salmon and you know that life is too good to do without this.

Winter fun in Finland

The multiactivity week was very varied and interesting. For me 2 days snowshoeing plus 2 days cross-country skiing was just enough. My son and I had a terrific week in the Finnish snow. Our guide Urpo made it pleasant and all time save for the both of us, as well as for the rest of the group we were travelling with. According to the weather conditions we experienced a great deal of flexibility within the program, eg. there was a lot of cold wind and heavy snow fall when a husky sledge tour was on the program, it was rapidly changed into a visit to a reindeer farm. However that meant that a few days later and additional bus drive was needed to take the group to and from the husky farm that was – on the day we went – 80 kms from our accommodation. And when your hotel has a “road view” at one side, and a lake view at the other, with Upitrek you’ll have the lake view! Also on behalf of my son many thanks for a great holiday! A wonderful walk in the wilderness. Seeing bears which were splendid. Seeing the quiet and beautiful forest together picking blueberries along the route. I can not praise this trip highly enough. From the genuine friendliness of everyone we have met to the thoughtful and well-organized programme, to the wonderful group leader for whom nothing was too much trouble. He has given us a wonderful insight into Finland and into the wonders of the wilderness. He has responded to the individual needs of the group members while balancing the need for safety as well as fun (lots of it).

The highlights have been beyond all my expectance – 4 hours of pure joy at the bear hide, sauna and lake, the beauty of the swamps, forests, lakes and sky in sunshine and in rain. We started to walk in the forest under the rain and got back completely wet. But we were so well welcomed by Helena that we forgot our “wetness” very soon. Day after day we entered in the wilderness and culture of Finland. We ate lots of blueberries, we saw huge mushrooms, we walked on soft ground. We enjoyed canoeing, we really liked sauna strictly linked with the bath in the lake. We appreciated the lunch with the sausages cooked on the fire, we felt at home thanks to the fresh kindness of Topias, our young and smiling guide who always was able to let us feel good and explaining a lot of things on nature and on Finnish traditions.
