A cross-country skiing tour for experienced skiers.
|
This skiing tour takes you to the forests of northeastern Finland to the area of Kainuu situated right on the Russian border. This is the land where the poems for Finnish national epic, Kalevala, where collected.
The nature along the route is covered by white snow and it’s very peaceful and beautiful everywhere. Skiing goes through an extensive complex of nature reserves called Kalevala Park. The lodges are cosy and rather small family-run places. Every night you get to enjoy Finnish sauna and delicious dinners as well as the hospitality of the local people. Daily distances are average 40 km, totally 250 km during the whole week. Therefore a good physical condition and previous experience of cross-country skiing is needed to participate this tour.

Upi's special skiing tour |
Special departure - a Russian border tour on the original route
|
Upitrek started running Russian border ski tours back in 2002. The route was changed few years ago but now it is time to come back to the beginning doing a special tour on the original route. We start from Wildbrownbear at Vartius and ski northwards finishing at Arola farm.
So the different area and mostly different accommodations as on our current Russian border tour but the same easy landscape, friendly service and relaxing atmosphere.

A short skiing break on the border line.
|
This exciting 4 day cross-country ski tour takes you to the region of Kainuu in eastern Finland. You will ski beside the Russian border area through the snow laden forests and over the frozen lakes, taking time to enjoy the peace and quiet of unspoilt nature and beautiful winter scenery. The track is made by a snowmobile which also transports the luggage.
The accommodations are small and cosy. The most unique experience will be Kovavaara cabin which is without electricity and other modern comforts. Traditional Finnish saunas will be available every night. |
