A cross-country ski tour for experienced skiers.
|
| This skiing tour takes you to the forests of northeastern Finland to the area of Kainuu situated right on the Russian border. This is the land where the poems for the Finnish national epic, Kalevala, where collected. The nature along the route is covered by white snow and it is very peaceful and beautiful everywhere. The route goes through an extensive complex of nature reserves called Kalevala Park. Area’s geography is dominated by hills, forests, mires, lakes and rivers. The lodges are cosy and rather small family-run places. Every night you get to enjoy Finnish sauna and delicious dinners as well as the hospitality of the local people. Daily stages are average 40 km, totally 250 km during the whole week. A good physical condition and previous experience of cross-country skiing is needed to participate in this tour. |

A short skiing break on the border line.
|
This exciting 4 day cross-country ski tour takes you to the region of Kainuu in eastern Finland. You will ski beside the Russian border area through the snow laden forests and over the frozen lakes, taking time to enjoy the peace and quiet of unspoilt nature and beautiful winter scenery. The track is made by a snowmobile which also transports the luggage.
The accommodations are small and cosy. The most unique experience will be Kovavaara cabin which is without electricity and other modern comforts. Traditional Finnish saunas will be available every night. |
